Until its demise, Alitalia operated the Boeing 777 as the largest model in its fleet. However, its successor, ITA Airways, opted for the A350 as its flagship. The Airbus in elegant blue metallic with the small ornaments at the rear bears the name of former soccer player and coach Marcello Lippi, who led the "Azzurri", the Italian national team, to the title at the World Cup in Germany in 2006.
